THE FORMER CLUB HOTEL, BLUFF DEMOLITION

Ryal Bush Demolition WERE ENGAGED TO DEMOLISH the long-vacant former hotel on the town’s main street, after it earlier had a dangerous building notice put on it due to structural concerns.

The Club Hotel was originally built in 1914. However, it was not the only hotel to be constructed on this historic site. In fact, it was one of several establishments, including the Railway Hotel, the Terminus Hotel, and two different Club Hotels, Fire has ravaged the buildings a total of four times. The Club Hotel remained vacant for over 20 years due to it being deemed a significant safety risk. In 2014, the hotel was acquired by the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival Charitable Trust with the intention of extending the site for the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival.

In April 2024, Ryal Bush commenced demolition with a tight deadline - May 25, 2024 for the festival to be held. Ryal Bush worked closely with Heritage New Zealand, Invercargill City Council, NZTA, the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival Charitable Trust and the local community to ensure a successful outcome for all. Ryal Bush were conscious of the significant historical value and worked with Heritage New Zealand to establish any artifacts were documented.
